Week Update

This week was integral to our groups overall project planning as well as client involvement. We had a meeting with our project client. In this meeting we:

  • received a tour of the facilities that the Criminology Department currently has for their lab setups
  • received a rundown of the most important protocols students are required to follow
  • talked with our client about expectations and what was achievable within this semester
  • aquired lab manuals for both first and second year labs to ensure accurate proceedure

Client Meeting Notes

General steps for students in lab:

  • Safe route in
  • Initial walkthrough assessment
  • Initial photos
    • medium range overview photos
    • close up observational photos
  • placing of exhibit markers
  • Secondary photos of exhibits with markers
    • scales may be used in exhibit photos (not next to the body)

Tools used currently in lab:

  • scale
  • exhibit markers
  • measuring tape

Other notes from our meeting:

  • we are looking to create a situation that the client is not easily able to simulate in a school environment
  • the client is looking for a simulation that is less clinical
  • for this semester we will be focusing specifically on an instructional application
  • relevant steps for instruction may include: showing students how to find, photograph, and collect relevant exhibits as following protocols and proceedure
  • the client does not have a set time limit for labs so we will only be required to set limits based on healthy usage of the HMD
  • the client does not currently have the ability to simulate a multi-room scenario so we will be exploring this idea
  • there are a variety of tools that the client is not able to simulate a scenario in the school, if there is time this semester we may explore implementation of these tools (example: fingerprinting)
